Patient Preparation
Collect

Plasma separator tube or serum separator tube (SST).

Specimen Preparation

Protect from light. Allow serum tube to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells ASAP or within 30 minutes of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum or plasma to an ARUP Amber Transport Tube. (Min: 0.5 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature

Refrigerated.

Unacceptable Conditions

EDTA, citrate, oxalate, or sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate.

Stability

After separation from cells: Ambient: Calcium and CO2: 4 hours, All others: 24 hours; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 2 weeks
